Aw thank you! No problem, saw your Royal Tenenbaums poster and immediately had to follow - it’s amazing.
Aw thank you! Just the Adobe suite - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and I do quite a bit by hand.
Tell me about it, I’ve had so many interviews and sample briefs to do. It really annoys me when people act like graphic design is a soft touch - it’s fucking hard to get on these courses.
I don’t blame you, I was freaking out for mine. I got the place based on my online portfolio so I guess they saw something they liked in that: http://1070116619.blogspot.com/
Pretty much everything in my portfolio is print based and quite typographic because that’s just how I work. I guess just put in your favourite pieces and what shows your style the best. Good luck, maybe I’ll see you next year!
Haha it makes sense. You tag posts as something (like all of my portfolio suff is tagged with portfolio) and then you can link to all posts with that tag like this:
Just had to vent.
After 8 long days, I finally have my Macbook back from the Apple store. I was hoping it would be a detoxing experience, spending a week without access to the internet (well I have my phone but it’s not really the same…). But it was actually really awful. A bit like that scene in Trainspotting when Ewan McGregor locks himself in a room with a bucket to get off heroin. Replace smack with a laptop and that was me.
So, lesson learnt: I am too reliant on computers but I honestly don’t mind being a slave to technology as long as I have constant access to amusing twitter jokes and BBC iPlayer.
They had 1004 applicants (it’s a 70 place course) and they asked for an online portfolio from all 1004. They decided who to interview from that but they gave 5 people offers without interview, just on the basis of the online portfolio - and I was one of them. Which is a bit mental, frankly. MMU is one of my two top choices and the course is so competitive so it’s amazing to know they actually want me.
I also have a place at Reading but I’m fairly certain I won’t be taking it up. The department was great but I know now that a campus uni really isn’t for me - I need a city, with decent gig venues, a Topshop and properly franchised coffee outlets. Sadly, Reading can’t offer that. But I did get a very nice email from the admissions tutor complimenting my portfolio. It’s weird - I think I’m finally starting to accept that I’m pretty good at this design lark…
Anyway, just a little uni update. I also have my London College of Communication interview next week and then my Leeds College of Art interview in April. Fingers crossed.
